在进行人物雕塑之前选择石材的时候要注意挑选没有裂纹和杂色纹路的石材。因为如果石材中有裂纹那么就会对雕塑整体的结构稳定性就会产生影响，所以要尽量避免这种有伤残的石材。

一般而言汉白玉的透明度比较好，但是有些石材中会有杂纹出现，那么就要注意在设计的时候充分利用或者凿掉有杂纹的部分。
